We do not perform pedicures on clients with Toenail Fungus…your shouldn’t go anywhere that does!
With the summer already upon us, many of our clients have been breaking out their sandals, flip flops, peep toes and wedges. Of course, this also requires getting a rocking pedicure to make sure those piggys look their best. But daily, we have been running into clients who are confused and/or upset when they come in for their pedicure and are turned away because they have an active toenail fungus. We know, it is embarrassing to be turned away for any service…but there are some VERY IMPORTANT reasons that we will not service anyone with toenail fungus.
1. It is against state regulations to provide a pedicure to someone who has nail fungus - For the health of our clients, we are careful to ensure that we are meeting and exceeding the state regulations for cleanliness in every way. This helps to ensure a clean and safe environment for our clients, our technicians and our environment.
2. One of the reasons that pedicures with nail fungus are against state regulations, is because nail fungus can be spread! Ever think of where you might have picked up your nail fungus? Well we have. If you got a manicure or pedicure at a facility that DOES provide nail services to someone who has a nail fungus, then the pedicure basins, implements, and surfaces can be contaminated with the fungus. Combine this with other risk factors (short nails, damaged nail beds, compromised immune system, nails staying in a dark place (like socks)) and you could quickly contract a nail fungus…that is tough to get rid of too. This is a PRIME reason that we cannot and will not provide nail services when you have an active nail fungus. To protect you and all of our other clients (and technicians too!).
3. Another reason we do not provide nail services to our clients in Aurora or Naperville when they have a nail fungus – Stirring up the fungus can make it infect your other nails as well! Don’t take our word for it, look at what the Mayo Clinic has to say about Prevention of Nail Fungus
4. While nail polishes WILL NOT harbor fungus, yes we will say it again…Nail Polishes will NOT harbor nail fungus, because the chemicals in the nail polish create an INHOSPITABLE environment for fungus, applying polish to your nails that are infected with fungus will actually make the fungus MORE DIFFICULT to get rid of. The polishes (and or enhancements) will actually make it more difficult for your nail to breathe, keeping more moisture in the nail, and causing the fungus to grow!
We get it though, we know you want to cover up the fungus, and we understand why! But the problem is, that we will not compromise your health, the health of our other clients or the health of our technicians, to do something that will actually make the problem worse – or spread it further!
Our dedication to cleanliness and health makes A Premier Massage and Day Spa in Aurora, IL the best choice for your next manicure or pedicure in Aurora or Naperville, IL.
PLEASE – Next time you call for an appointment or stop in somewhere to get a manicure or pedicure, ask them if you can still get the service if you have a nail fungus….THEN RUN if they say you can!
